MattKC
MattKC is an ongoing YouTube series hosted and produced by Matthew Wong, leader of Olive Studios. As of May 2023, the channel has over 377,000 subscribers and has amassed over 38,500,000 total views.
MattKC is a factual series in a similar vein to Mythbusters, where an interesting or unusual technical challenge is posed, and host MattKC (Wong) attempts to achieve it within the span of the episode.
Often this is a programming challenge, such as the channel's most viewed episode Can you fit a whole game into a QR code? In it, MattKC uses several programming tricks to fit an entirely playable version of the game Snake into the 2,953 maximum bytes allowed by a QR code, ultimately succeeding after attempting everything from writing raw x86 assembly to using EXE compression.
MattKC is also known for making fixes for old games so that they continue to be playable even when newer computers introduce compatibility issues. His LEGO Island videos, where he fixes bugs present in the original game and reverse engineers the game's proprietary asset format to upgrade the heavily compressed music, have been widely acclaimed, earning nearly two million views combined.
MattKC is presented with a quasi-documentary style storytelling approach, where the audience is led through each challenge and hurdle before ultimately arriving at the solution (or lack thereof if the project failed). By combining narratives with advanced programming feats, MattKC is yet another expression of Olive Studios' passion for art and technology.
